I did take a few cuttings in June and potted them up to share with neighbors this Fall but didn't give the mother plants a severe haircut. They were 3 for $10 last Fall and I bought 6, kept them displayed in big pots together a couple of weeks and finally planted them on DH's insistance. Mums and carnations are my least favorite flowers, their scents remind me too much of death, and I would have been happy to have chunked the mums on the compost pile. DH just loves them, I have no idea why. But lately he's really getting into the Oriental and Asiatic Lilies.
