Because the front of my lot was uneven and I wanted a little picket garden in front of the porch, I devised a way to do it with brick beds to level the field, so to speak. On the lower side, I just let the pickets follow the curve of the slope. On the driveway side, I had a brick wall built to separate my driveway from my neighbors (and to keep the neighbor's kids' big wheels from being left behind my car where I would likely run over them).
