That simple but supremely satisfying way of creating color combinations relies on pairing plants on the basis of shared color characteristics. Everything is fair game: leaves, flower petals, pistils, stamens, thorns, fruit or even seedpods. For example, the leaf of one and the flower of another may share a single hue, like the red of this coleus leaf and the red of the pentas flower. I have not been able to have a continuum color echo thru my gardens. Don't know that I'd want that, may make things a bit monotonous. Not to mention that Mother Nature is the boss of me and while I conspire to match the most perfect combinations, MN comes and does what she will. So, I just sigh and do a color echo here, one there, and hope for the best. Here are a few of mine. Pls show us yours. I was in a "white" mood the day I planted this combo |
