I wish I could order lots of tulips too but I find for us the bulbs are just expensive squirrel/rabbit/chipmunk food and if they do come up then they are an expensive dessert buffet for the deer. So sad. I do buy a few already grown from HD and plant them in pots on the deck and front porch~~although the deer climb the steps to the porch and devour those oftentimes, too.

I have finally gotten my daff plantings (sort of) the way I want them, though. After six years of ordering all kinds from the catalogs I finally have culled out my daffs to bloom at the right times in the right colors with the right companion plants. This took a while to work out!

Although I am taking some time to rearrange them 'in the green' this week so that I can further refine the 'color echoes'. When I started with daffs several years ago I had little idea that there were so many nuances to consider~~shape, bloom time, growth habit, colors and companion plants. Who would know?! But I learned a lot from the nice people in our Daffodil club.

Now I am concentrating on Hyacinths since the critters are (apparently) not so keen on eating them and they might survive at least for one season. I have planted thousands of grape hyacinths to bloom with the daffs in the past but I notice that something came in and chewed off all the green on several patches. Oh, well. The H. Orientalis seem to be undisturbed, though, and I'm ordering more of those for next year.

Well, I didn't mean to go on a whining binge about my deer problems, but I am interested in your progress in the bulb garden.

I don't know if you have researched Garden Watchdog on bulb resources, but if you are buying large quantities of bulbs, you might want to look at VanEngelen's wholesale catalogue too if you haven't already. They sometimes have very good prices and I have generally found them to be a good source. And eflowergarden.com too. Burt there is a good guy and easy to deal with.
