But I keep it nearby if I need to screen any. I had also read that a compost pile needs to sit on the ground to get the necessary micro-organisms for making good compost, otherwise you would need to add them if you use a tumbling barrel type. I also have a compost bin at the back of the house, off the kitchen, for food scraps. I try to keep things simple and as cheap as possible, while still getting the job done.
