It's supposed to grow 1.8 to 2.4 metres (6 to 8 feet) high, so mine still have a lot of growing to go. Thinking back, I recall seeing a clump of red seeds in Cairns and some must have fallen off into my pocket. Same as some palm seeds. Funny how some seeds seem to do that. When I planted them I'd thought they were the ones from Papua New Guinea. Some palms came up with them which surprised me at the time but I thought they'd just got mixed up. But it still doesn't explain where my Alocasia portei seed got to. Unless they didn't survive the cleaning they got followed by the long trip. Lost their viability, got planted and rotted. But thanks to lakesidecallas who got me onto the right track. By the way, that Ceiba speciosa looks very much like our Bombax ceiba. It has a similar prickly trunk and grows into a huge tree with red flowers. |
