Photo of Siberian Iris in "Pond Pot"?

In the summer of '08 we visited the Niagara School of Horticulture in Ontario, Canada. (Been there a few times, FABULOUS place! See photo, just a very small portion of the gardens, all free to tour!) They had these large urns/pots filled with water, and potted water plants set down in the water. I don't remember specific plants, although I think one was a ponytail palm?? I've searched online for "water pot gardening" but haven't found anything so far.

I was wondering if I could do this with Siberian Iris, which I understand likes boggy conditions. Or would that be too much water? I have Sibs growing in a garden but they're in too dry a site and are struggling. Mosquitos wouldn't be a problem because I buy mosquito dunks for a small fountain we have and also for our rainbarrel.

Would appreciate any input from DGr's who have grown anything in a water pot...thanks!
