I don't get to see many hummers where I live now; they don't like the Bitterroot as much as more southerly locales, plus we have a pack of untamed children rioting through the neighborhood pretty much any time they're not in school, doing homework, grounded, or out of the house for the night. I've heard & seen a few, but not closely. My mom's place in Yamhill County, Oregon, however, is a *very* different story! I don't recall the exact date on this photo other than it was very either May or June and definitely 2009. Shutter speed was 1/500 because that's as fast as it can go with the flash (and my flash never seemed to perturb the little thugs in the least!), used optical zoom from a distance of about 12 feet. It's most likely a rufous, what with Anna's summering further south, black-chinned females having a much whiter belly, and no other hummers I know of that are even remotely as common 20-30 miles inland on the Oregon coast.
