Here is what I'm using to feed the birds in my backyard. It is a larger sized open sided feeder made of cedar. It is mounted on a 4x4 post 7 feet off the ground so the deer can't easily get at it. I'm using regular feed mixed with large quantities of sunflower seed. I will also put out some bread or baked goods that we don't eat. For the most part it is cardinals, blue jays, sparrows and a few yellow finches that congregate.
