Since it's from the Balkans, it's much more tolerant of cold winters and especially of our hot, dry summers (which turn most primroses to mush). I've always been jealous of the Brits, who have available in commerce a number of named clones in different shades of pink and white, of this species. However, the ordinary variety is great, too; it just keeps spreading, and I just keep digging up pieces of it and spotting them around the garden, where they take right off. It is covered with flowers every spring, no matter what the weather, and it stays in bloom a long time.
