Well, I got back. The reunion was a success, but the birding wasn't. I made it to the observation deck, about 1/2 a mile one way - but the deck, what a joke. It went out about 75 ft and dead-ended in the middle of an overgrown swampy area - thick vegetation. Later I was told that it used to stop out in the open water on the edge of the "swamp", but they had to lower the water level to do some work on the dam, and in the meantime, the area around the observation deck grew up and they never have gone back to re-work it.

I hung around and didn't see anything. I do better here at the house, as far as seeing birds goes.

But the ride over was real pleasant.
