At a garden show I bought a huge ee bulb don't know the name but it must of weighed 10lbs or more and I love that plant. It has the leaves like the pic of A. Borneo Giant and is huge, I overwinter it every year so it doesn't have to start over. Made the mistake of sticking a canna in the pot with it and now this fall I need to tip the huge pot and try to untangle it.......wish I hadn't done that.....I put caladiums around my new white bird of paradise which doesn't seem to be a problem. Oh yeah I forgot that picture was after a close call to a tornado, and the poor leaves are a bit raggy.

I am surprised you all would have trouble growing dahlias. I grow them next to the house on the west side and during a normal summer we hit upper 90's to 100 alot, and they get baked constantly but seem to love it. This summer we barely ever hit 90 and lots of rain and they weren't too happy about the whole thing, I got blooms, but not nearly as many.
