Morning monika -

I'm really puzzled by the information I've read that Brugs don't like high temperatures. Because I am very new to Brugs and I have been reading many informative posts here on DG I'm confused on the heat issue.

I do know you experienced an extremely unusual hot spell this summer and many plants suffered. I have contact with a major collector of Euphorbias in DE and he also experienced some losses.

Kell and I live quite close (within about 40km), but her weather is much cooler than mine. Our summer temps average between 29-43C daytime and we cool to about 10-15C during the night because of the San Francisco Bay influence. Our humidity is very low, not like Texas or Mississippi or some of the midwestern states.

My CG Brugs grew from 50cm to over 215cm from May til now. The 'Double White' didn't grow as fast, but is about 140cm tall. I've pruned them harshly at least 4 times this summer to keep them in bounds and growing upward rather than becoming broader. They have bloomed almost continuously since May during the unusually hot summer we just had with weeks of temps in the 90's.

So these California grown Brugs don't seem to suffer from the heat too much, but temperature variations do seem to affect the size, color and length of time the blooms last. I do see the double skirt dropping more than they did in the heat that's for sure.

Could you please comment a little further on hot temperatures and Brugs?

Here's an image of the same 'Double White' during the midst of one of our over 100F heat waves this summer:
