Unfortunately they have a very vigorous upward growth pattern with no significant side branching and just aren't suitable to make into a bonsai. So I am just growing my latest in a normal pot and will probably plant it in the garden in due course.
You should try bougainvillea here is one I have had for 8 years. It is a bit overgrown but I was lothe to prune it whilst in flower.
