When they get their first 2-4 true leaves on them, then I pot them up into a larger container. This year I used the small cups, then they went into a small pot (about 4 - 6 times bigger than the cup), and then they went into 5 gallon containers. Transplanted 3 times and the vines didn't skip a beat. I think it all depends on how healthy they are to begin with and how carefully you transplant with as little root disturbance as possible. I tend to let them get a little root bound so when I remove them from the cup and then the smaller pot, the roots have a hold of everything and there is no crumbling of soil around the root ball. The roots (and vines) seem really happy when I put them in the big containers. (That's their last stop!) They have lots of leg room then! And seem to appreciate it by giving me some huge leaves! And with a shot of Bloom Booster, I usually have buds forming in a week! Photo #1 is styrofoam cup. |
