It wouldn't bother me since I like the smell. LOL!
Whenever I come home in the evening I jingle my keys when walking from the car to my door, especially if there's a familiar odor in the air.
Skunks will usually move away from the sound. They don't go around looking for a confrontation.

There was a skunk family - Mom & 2 babies - that had a nest under the walkway near my front door. My neighbor got the brunt of it. His door is at right angles to mine. The tunnel to the nest went under his house. He couldn't figure out why his coat closet always had a faint smell of skunk. I pointed out the hole.
He's an animal lover so he put up with it until they moved out. He did the newspaper thing too. When it wasn't disturbed for a week, he sealed the hole. He said he'd rather smell skunk than smell dead skunk!

I like skunks! Anything that eats slugs is OK in my book!
