Can't understand why my baptista is eaten up though - any ideas? They were in perfect condition a week ago.

They are next to a large pot of milkweed which had been infested with aphids. I kept washing the aphids off with the water hose and never noticed any hover fly larvae around - but these sure look like hover fly pupas to me. However, when I've found hover fly pupa they are always stuck on the milkweed plants.

Have put these into a container - to watch, wait and see.
