Happ, here is what I do.. I rake all of my leaves in the fall to the flower beds as they fall... the flower beds are covered with leaves all winter until it is safe.. I usually wait until I see their heads popping up thru the foot of leaves that they break down to.. the compost ...is good it gives heat under the cold... I see everyone raking and bagging their leaves, and I pile my flower beds high with them and water over them to weight them down. then I throw bags of coffee grounds on top of that ( I get them from my work place) this works, folks, truly it does.. here is a nice one I am betting it is the peach coloured one in there with my monster violets//
