For the last week, a type of woodpecker has been visiting my neighbor's chimney and drumming on the metal flashing. Usually it's out there by 5:30 am and I've seen it there around 5:30 pm when I get home from work. I was able to get a picture this morning - though not a very good one because there wasn't enough light. I think it's a yellow-bellied sapsucker, but would love confirmation from someone more knowledgeable. It has red at the throat and above the eyes - but not on the back of the head. It appears to have bars not spots of black on its back. The drumming starts out real fast and then slows.
Also, can anyone tell me why he's drumming the heck out of my neighbors flashing? I can't imagine there are bugs there.
BTW - I'm in MN, zone 4a.
