As far as your Desert Rose. I'm not that experienced with them but I do have one that I bought last year. It wasn't doing well until I started decreasing the water. I was watering it with the rest of the container jungle and NO - it doesn't need it and started flowering nicely. I have it under the pool cage in semi-full sun all day.

If you're going to plant anything with it, you need to plant something complimentary that has the same water requirements. Maybe some nice succulents that aren't that thirsty!
