Some of you know I like to do bulb and perennial 'combinations'~~and most of those ideas I picked up from our old 'Color Echoes' threads on DG from a year or two ago to which so many DGers contributed. I am just sorry that my camera was on the blink this spring because I have had some of my best little color vignettes with my early daffs and 'little blue bulbs, etc., since I've started gardening (4 years ago) and it's so helpful to visually record for my DG journal what grew when, etc. (and then sharing on DG is always so fun!). Many of my perennials are now in the third spring time so I am really enjoying seeing them in their 'fullness'. Of course I've had to move so many around to make the visual 'arrangements' work out. We do have lots of woods surrounding us, by the way, but what the photos don't show are the neighbors' homes which are in view from our garden too. Here is a pic of some iris (supposedly the kind Monet had in his garden, but I think not). Behind them is a pot that I planted a bulb/perennial combination: Coral Bells (with a purplish cast), Purple Prince Tulips (which have already gone to tulip heaven), 3 yellow jonquils, and some johnny jump ups with purple and yellow faces that tied it all together. It bloomed for a month in full glory under the Prunus tree along the front walk. Now it's rather spent, but I wanted to share the idea, any way. The mailman just brought 6 clematis from Silver Star Vinery that I am hoping will bloom with the late tulips and alliums next year. Must go plant! Happy gardening. t. |
