All the chicks are claimed, however I do know lots of people at ASBC who will have more babies. Dmail me if any of you are. still interested. Anyone reading who has any chicks can be welcome to post here. Keep in mind the location of our round-up will be at "Loves Lookout on 69 just outside of Jacksonville, Texas (south of Tyler) on May 16th.

To avoid cogging down the East Texas Round-up thread

the discussion should probably continue here in Poultry and Livestock Forum.

To answer some of the questions asked in the above thread:

*Most pet quality of any chicken I know of, very docile.
*Very hardy in winter, feathered (bearded) chins, and feet
*Their feathers are more like fur than feathers
*They provide special fertilizer
*Not large eggs, but very good, organic and fresh.

*Important egg information as "good to know"*
Eggs from the store can be over 30 days old, and will actually keep for up to 100 days.
The 3 digit number on the carton in front of the "sell by" date is the 001-365th day of the year they were laid. Sell by date is usually about 45 days after that day. Always check your eggs before cooking. If they float, throw them away. Sinkers are good, just cook right away because the water washes the protective antibacterial "bloom" coating off the egg.

On a small scale they are great to have, even in the suburbs if there are only a couple of hens. Some of us can't have roos, :-/...
