It does die back to the ground so it blossoms on new wood. No not really a woody stem its more like a vine soft stem. I really do not fertilize. I looked for a photo must've deleted the pictures I had:( So sorry. But here is a photo of it now. Luckily I got this one my battery is getting to low to take a picture.
