In the Chinese tradition, we also have a "gravesite cleaning" day in which people go to the cemetery to pay their respects and to clean up the gravesites. This year, it fell on the first weekend in April. One of the main reasons I grow cut flowers is so that we have flowers to take to the cemeteries on all the major holidays - something that my mom has done ever since we were kids. I only have a few bearded irises - and this is the first to bloom. |
