Beginner Gardening: now we have an acre- dont know what to do with it! , 1 by shubbard

I dunno now- I am frozen!. I dont want it to look too busy- but I love lots of color and cottage type look too. I want it to look good but not chaotic! Soooo much space/yard everywhere! only 2 small trees centered to the house -about 1/2way up front yard. and of course a very tiny budget to work with on all this! I cant sem to find any landscape pictures eve close to what I have, to get an idea.
