So, this one comes with a story:
This is probably the first tree/shrub that I ever bought. About 9 years ago, before I started learning anything about plants, I asked a friend that owned a nursery for a recommendation for a small tree or shrub for this particular spot. She said 'oh there's the beautiful yellow magnolia, tulip flowered, that just came out a couple of years ago that would be perfect.' well, I saved my money and bought a pretty large one (for me anyhow) sine I knew it would take some time to bloom. It bloom for the first time 2 years ago... 1 bloom! Last years late snow wiped out lots of lovely buds on it. ( I think that this has happened several times) This is is the first year that mother nature has finally allowed the blooms to open. Good thing that I wasn't expecting a yellow magnolia huh?!?! lol. The funny thing is that a star magnolia is actually a much better height for that spot and I like them better anyhow! Honestly... several years ago I really suspected with fair certainty that it was a star magnolia, so it actually was not a big surprise. but still funny to think about.
