I see them -- a male and a female -- together alot of time. Sometimes, they seems to 'talk' to each other while perching on the tree branches. Then the male will stay guard, while the female landed at the feeder. The male then chase other birds that come near -- as if to allow the female to get all she wanted before he allows others come close. They're so interesting to watch. Other time, I'll see two females fighting each other, then the male sized with his mate and chase the other female away from the feeder. Isn't that great? That's family is all about. The female bird is one lucky 'woman' isn't she? lol.
