Never mind that my first, "flawless" plan, on how to put it all together-- never worked! Plan #2 had more promise--but still needed the AHA! moment to make it easier, which I found out after putting in the first of the 4 layers.....Like--PRE DRILL the holes for the spikes--dummy!!!! So much easier to drive them all in through the 4x4's! After an achy back and having to bend over to drive in over 30-6" spike-nails--it was done!!!! NOT perfectly aligned--but done!!!! This morning I filled it with 2 wheelbarrows-full of "good stuff" and planted my small "Karomo Shukibu" Azalea in it.....which spent the Winter, in it's 12" pot, half-dug into the bed to help it make it through the freezes and thaws.... It all started with this tiny, blooming branch-tip, a man I work with, brought to show me as it was so unique....In return--I tracked down the name of it for him (thanks to DG!) so he now knows what he has had for 25 years already. He DID tell me it has a semi-trailing habit, and that his wife keeps cutting off the drooping branches and rooting the....and that is why I spent over $40 to buy all the materials to build this "throne" for it to grow in....ahemmm...again......Had to dig up my large-leafed, variegated Hosta that was right under this spot!
