I would suggest that if you use the gallon size jar...dont cut the fence board down. The board I used was a redwood dogeared and was 7" x 6' little under an inch thick. I think I will use an old sun tea jar for the next one, and keep the board at 7" wide for more support. didnt realize until after we cut it at 5 1/2 " that the mouth of the sun tea jar is wider! lol! so went back to plan A with a 1 qt mason jar.
