My clematises wouldn't appreciate being disturbed. What I do with them is take a bamboo stake and poke holes all the way to the bottom, about two dozen or so. Then I pour the Vermont Compost into the holes and also add about a two inch layer at the top. I'm sure Tapla would not approve, but it seems to work for me. Here's one that I've done this with for several years. I have it in a large pickle crock about 13" across by 20" deep. I do use fresh soil for annuals in all my containers. |
