Here is a pic of the bird that put my place on the birders tour a few years ago. Although these birds don't belong at this latitude, this Red-breasted Sapsucker showed up here one morning at first light in early spring and stayed around for about a month. He would show up every morning at first light, not to feed here, but to hammer away at my metal roofed lean-to. Of course here in Alaska we gain 5-6 minutes of daylight each day, so this meant he was showing up that much earlier every morning. haha I almost lost my renter over this guy. By the end of the month he spent here, he was showing up and hammering very loudly at 4:30 am. I assume he was trying to drum up a mate.

He would hammer the roof for a few minutes.....
