It was actually more of a rescue. When I got to the barn yesterday and went out to the chicken yard, I found poor little BJ had been pretty roughed up. I have 2 bantam roos, 4 bantam hens and 1 duck hen in the pen. I figured there would be fighting one day and I am actually suprised it has waited until now. It looked like Trey had wallowed BJ in the cold mud most of the night and pecked his little rose comb up pretty bad. I brought BJ home with me last night and let him sleep in a big gray tote lined with fresh hay. He was warm and dry and had feed and water. I figured he looked a lot worse off than he actually was because he was wet and dirty. One eye was closed so I washed it with a bit of warm water. This morning I added a bit of antibiotic to his water and dabbed some neosporin on his eyes and comb. He is lively and pecking at me so I think he will be fine. I brushed some of the dirt out of his feathers but it will take a while for them to return to their former beauty. Now I have to figure out what to do with him. I can't put him back in with Trey. So, for now, he is roosting on top of the rabbit pen in the dining room. We'll see what the rabbit has to say about it. LOL
