Cody, I've been researching seeds and plants, I think I saw you on the plant trading forum, but I'm NOT allowed on the forum... it had to be somewhere else.. lol I have some seeds buried, 2 liters, solo cups, and some 6-packs, anything that holds dirt and water.. :) doing some medium testing, too. Easter Egg plant, summer sky cone flowers, lilies, Rose of Sharon and one (so far) sprouted red sang brug seed. This time of year seeds and plants is about all that keeps me from going stir crazy. It's Jan and I want it to be at least March... (single digits and a blanket of snow this morning)
I wanted to report harvesting of the brug seed pod, on the cross I made last summer... not exactly scheduled, but I think it was close enough to being ready... I noticed a change in it, it's texture wasn't as firm as it had been. It looked like it was going to rot off at the stem (hope I'm explaining okay) so I turned to move the hose to get a better look and knocked the darn thing off. I brought it upstairs, opened and the seed is drying out. I think I counted around 25 seeds. I'll probably try to start 1/2 dozen seeds and see if they germinate. Most of Maya's "unknown" seed pods are holding and she is getting ready to bloom again and the monster white has hardly stopped blooming all winter. When Maya's seed pods mature, I'll probably offer seeds to the HBA's for postage, if anyone wants to try some. They would be fun to experiment with, Maya is one of my fav brugs. Here's the cross pod, opened... I hope some are viable. (the Maya cutting I kept last fall did fine in the moss for a while, but it was one of about 3 or 4 that didn't make it. I'm having so much fun with seeds and plants.. they seem to be something stable in my life right now. Something I can count on, reliable.
I wanted to report on the Blue Clerodendrum I received from Debra (joeswife) last fall as part of our old groups "one plant you want" list. It's doing great, growing in my south french doors.. Thanks again, Debra it's brought unmeasureable enjoyment for me, can't wait to see blooms this summer. Need to get busy, keep up on another thread and get my old fingers back in potting soil... Ahhhh!
