My Hellebore never bloom earlier then January. The red berries in the second photo are the red rose hips of Rosa virginiana, one of the native roses. This is a beautiful suckering shrub that flowers once in June. They are small pink single roses with a delicious strong fragrance that permeates my small garden in June. The rose hips last and look like berries until very late winter and then are eaten by birds when nothing else is available. I'll post a photo of the full Fall foliage of Rosa virginiana. Sally the pine needle paths are my favorite and are free if I time it right and collect them curbside before the town does a leaf pickup. |
