Sami wrote: Ponder Caretaker?? I guess you can say I am a pond caretaker because I am a CNA and am responsible for two elderly people. I am responsible for their heath and happiness. I showed them a picture of my daughters pond and right away they wanted to get one installed. I called my DH and he went and purchased a pond kit form Wal Mart. He came over and started digging the hole for it. Where they wanted the pond was roots the size of your arm so had to find another place to put it where they could get up close to the pond. Started digging again and ran across water pipes that was for the no longer working sprinkler system. So we cut the pipes and then ran across the telephone wire to the shed and an electric wire to the shed. Now you will enjoy this because my DH is no electrician but with the help of the male client who is almost blind walked my hubby through putting the wire back together. So then we were able to finish digging the hole and filling with water. Clients wanted fish in right away but after telephoning the pet shop was told needed to put a dechlorated in the water and had to wait 48 hours before putting any fish in the pond. So they was able to enjoy just the fountain for the 48 hours. Then we put a large Pleco that had outgrown the inside aquarium into the pond. Then we purchased 8 feeder goldfish and one Large Koi. The next day lost 2 feeder goldfish and the day after that 4 more feeder Goldfish. Koi doing fine and so is Pleco. Bought 2 snails for the pond and some floating plants. They wanted more fish so bought 2 more Chocolate Fantail Golfish. Then the rains started. Pond almost overflowed so had to scoop out in just one day 30 gallons of fish, until I realized all I had to do is turn the little frog fountain out of the pool and let it drain out that way. DAH! Well so far so good. The fountain had to be put about 6 inches above ground so that my Clients would not accidentally back into the pond. Put some stones around the pond. Adding a pic so you can see what it looks like. It is a very small pond but they are enjoying it. Ruby is almost deaf but cant hear the fountain but can see it. Allen is almost blind but enjoys listening to the sound of the fountain. Since this photo was taken I have put a smaller fountain in so not to attack animals. Also put the gater and the snake hoping that will scare them away. Will be asking for advice on this as we go along. Will try and get a pic of my clients sitting by the pond and send it on to. Of course I am the one that has to take care of the pond but enjoy doing it to see the happiness on their faces. It has give them something to look forward to everyday. Have given her the responsibility of feeding the fish which she enjoys very much. Hope you enjoy hearing this little story and knowing that we might grow old but we still can have some happiness in our old age. Sami |
