You're right about the lemon basil setting lots of seed; the lime basil does the same. I don't know if I trust my Italian basil to be true this year, as there were a couple of others (a lemon and a rogue of some sort) that popped up nearby, but I may harvest some seed anyway... any that don't come up with the crinkly leaves should be easy enough to weed out of the seedling tray. I will have seeds from 'Magical Michael' and a "hot & spicy" basil from Sumatra that are pretty well isolated. Gomphrena seeds are the dried flowers... if you pull out a dried petal, you'll notice a hard lump in the base of the petal. That's the seed. Weird. |
