Propagation: Germinating Oriental Lily & Gladiola seeds, 1 by jenepat

I started them last weekend, but am now wondering if I was supposed to take the seed out of the thin papery covering? I'm new to seed germination & have only worked with hibiscus, pansy & snapdragon seeds so far - all of which don't have this papery covering. But both the lily & gladiola seed do. Am I supposed to take this off, or is this actually part of the seed?
