It is not important to keep the boards on the face or the side of the shelf, its what looks best to you. I realize there is wasted space on the shelves but getting 4 foot boards you usually can get one cut per board from the local lumber yard. I recomend pressure treated wood as we are dealing with soils and water. The pressure treated wood will last longer than staight pine boards. see attached scan |
