Emma, It really is gray, almost as gray as the Gray Morning Mist. There was another that looked very much like it, shape and size but much more purple.
Becky we have a lot of local stone. All of that was collected from near our home. Those really big ones came from a bridge that they are removing and replacing just down the road. Most of what is laying in the yard came from there, too. It's our local Red Stone which is a type of sandstone.
This is a picture from last year that looks a bit like the one with the red band. I collected seeds from it last year and have some planted around.
