Your MG is doing the same thing that mine did last year.
When I first grew these, they did have a mounding habit - then, just took off climbing like crazy. So, it is my guess that it was apparently crossed with a trailing-type MG.

Otherwise, your MG may be reverting back to the trailing-type that I believe it was crossed with.
