art_n_garden wrote: It must be going around on this forum.... This morning I woke up to find my precious (new, birthday present) yamabuki ogon swimming upside down in the shallow end of the pond. I immediately freaked out, picked her up and walked inside and threw her in my tropical tank (in case it was a water issue). Good idea huh! Upon further thought, I set up a rubbermaid tub with cooler water and an aerator and moved her into there. I sat next to the tub holding her near the oxygen for about half an hour...and then dumped in some salt in case that would help. She had no symptoms, save the swimming sideways and upsidedown, other than brownish/red nostrils that used to be lighter colored. Does that sound like anything you've ever heard of? Anyhow, I watched her for a loooong time. She was weak for a while, wouldn't fight me if I touched her. I went out and bought a salinity test kit so I could know how much salt I'd added. The pond store told me to watch her and keep the salinity at .3 until she looked better. I also added some anti-bacterial medicine in case it was internal. She is swimming stronger and upright now...she actually darts away when I try to touch her, unlike earlier today. But I'm still watching her. I'd like to put her back in the pond, but I should probably watch her overnight. What a scary day! (This is her right after I got her about a month ago) |
