It can produce 12 ft whips in less than half a growing season from a hard prune. You can prune it any time of the year and you will have to. The photo (taken when a storm was approaching) shows the growth response to a hard spring pruning. It was sold as 8' x 8' on the tag. Mine didn't make it four years when it achieved 12ft with no signs of stopping.
