I grew some Maltese CRoss from seed last year and it is in full bloom now. I've seen hummers at them and butterflies too. The Sweet Williams started blooming a little earlier, but I only saw butterflies on them, but that's not to say the hummers weren't visiting when I wasn't looking. If you have room for a vine Lonicera sempervirens is the first to bloom for my hummers and it keeps going all season, filling in any gaps with your other flowers. The hummers really like them. Also any red penstemons that bloom now would be good. I currently have P. barbatus Iron Maiden blooming, another one I grew from seed last year.

Sorry I forgot to say that the picture is of Maltese Cross.
