I had mostly veggies and herbs, roses & mini-roses, and various perennials planted. I also had three daylilies-- Hyperion, Strawberry Candy, and Rainbow Candy. Strawberry Candy died before we moved; I remember that very clearly. So, when we got here, I had two containers of daylilies that I planted first in a nursery bed and later transplanted to my new perennial bed. I remember Rainbow Candy blooming last year, but not the one that I assumed to be Hyperion. Hyperion had bloomed on the apartment balcony, though, so I knew it was labeled correctly. I just assumed that the shock of transplanting last year kept it from flowering. Well, fast forward to this morning when the supposed Hyperion bloomed. Um... it's purpley-red. Definitely not Hyperion. So the great mystery is... where the heck did this lily come from and what is its name? And where did Hyperion go? Gardening is weird sometimes. :-) |
