Well, I thought I'd add our little visitor. We live in the country, with just one part of the property being our "yard". It's fenced and although we have other wildlife visitors in the yard part, we don't worry about deer coming inside the yard. They stay outside the fence. But today we were about to leave for a trip into town when DH noticed movement in the yard. I don't know for sure what happened...maybe the fawn jumped the fence somehow. The mother and some other deer were outside the fence and she looked worried. I thought about just leaving it there and leaving the gate open....but worried the other deer might end up joining "Junior" in the yard...and thinking about my garden...wondering how many of my plants would be left with hungry deer in the yard all day...I KNOW they're desperate for food with the drought being so extreme this year. Finally I told DH to open the gate and get out of sight. I walked around behind where the fawn was to scare it toward the side of the yard where the gate is. It worked! The smart little guy only needed to see the open gate and away it ran to find its family. A happy ending for all!
