grammyphoeb wrote: Just getting caught up on this thread Louise - what a big project!!! Good luck with everything. We didn't get any storms yesterday - they were either north or south of our area. Could have used some rain but not the wind and hail they were predicting. Update on the drowning - the boy was only 14 and he and his friend (also 14) were trying to swim across the river to a rope swing on the other side. He got tired and told his friend he couldn't make it so they started back. When his friend turned and looked back he was gone and he couldn't get to him. The friend then ran back to the beach area and the life guards came to try to rescue him. They were not from Glens Falls but from Balston Spa which is down near Saratoga. He was at the beach/picnic area with his friend and his friend's mother for a picnic when they wandered down the canal tow path trail and decided to swim in another place - bad choice. I can not see the river from my house this time of year because of the trees and brush on the other side of the canal (canal is between my house and the river) but watched the recovery and hoping he wasn't dead. When I heard someone scream we've got him and then saw the friend sitting on the bank of the canal with his head in his hands and sobbing I knew he was dead. I can't imagine how his friend must feel. this is a pic taken from the beach and looking down to the area where they tried to swim across. Eleanor |
