Then 10 years ago DH decided to climb down into it and clean it out. He has a regular sump pump in it that pumps water to the upper bowl (I'll see if I have any pictures of that part) Then it comes down the stream to the lower falls into the pond. On the other side of the pond there is the drain tile that takes the water to a filter bed and back into the well. We never have drained it and completely cleaned it out in the 10 years it had been in. Some of the original fish that were put in to keeps bugs down until he got the system running are still there and tons of them were hatched out in the pond or the filter bed. The only koi left(we lost them all one spring) was hatched out in the filter bed and is getting way to big for the pond. We don't know where the turtle came from. There is a creek about a mile away from here and a stream about 1 mile the other way so maybe he was just passing through. In this picture you can see the bowl and upper falls in the back. |
