You see most of the crowned heads of Europe have or had their roots back in the British Isles. You can't pick where you stop going backwards you know!!! By 1776 we had George III great grandson of George I born in England and with English as his first language. Thats the George who was the longest reigning king we have had and who was a "Bit Odd" by the end. None of them however are the source of the rhyme:- Georgie Porgie Pudding and Pie Kissed the girls and made them cry, When the boys came out to play Georgie Porgie ran away! Here endeth the history lesson!! Was down in Newbury last week and totally amazed at the number of swans on the Kennet. As swans are the Royal Bird and technically belong to the queen - she's the only one alllowed to eat them - they get counted every year at Swan-Upping. The Uppers are going to have their work cut out this year!! This message was edited May 27, 2008 10:59 PM |
