Well, toadstools are certainly one of these plants. Here's an interpretation of a fairy ring that captures the spirit of a ring without easily identifiable plants, but still suggests many ways to express a ring with plants, besides toadstools (although there are said to be 2 species of fungus in Maryland that are said to glow in the dark) -
