Gardengirl1204 wrote: Hi all! Sharon, the batiks quilts are AWESOME!!!! Thank you for sharing the link! Yes, I have been busy! I stayed at work friday till 5:30 to get stuff done so I wouldn't have to come in this weekend. One of the guys I go to school with works at a landscaping/nursery over on the southside. I was given a $100 gift cert. to there from my team at work for admin week so I decided to go down and see what he had. I was in the market for a Japanese Maple - Acer palmatum dissectum "Orangeola". It a very lacey leaf maple that has slightly red leaves - bright, bright red in fall. Anyway, my friend got me a grat deal on it so I had enough left over to buy 2 geraniums,1 impatiens, a red coneflower plant, a hummingbird ming plant and a varigated sweet potato plant. Their prices were very cheap!!! I am so glad I don't live near it cause I'd be there every day! So with my new tree, I decided to clean out my front flower bed to make room for it. Have you ever started diggin in your garden and planned to "just take a few plants" and then before you notice, everything is gone? Well, that was me today! The part of the bed I cleaned was left over from the previous owner and had daylilies (orange and yellow) which I can't stand. I also had a ton of Spiderwart which reproduces like rabbits. So I decided to dig them up. Well, the yarrow and the old coneflowers were also in the way so all of it went! (heck, I can just buy new stuff to fill it all!!) Since planting this bed, my river birches have grown and it is very shady now so a lot of the stuff I had were for sun. Anyway, I now have it all cleaned out and I just need to go buy some organic soil to add and mulch and I can plant the tree! I'll take a pic once I get it all done! We're off tomorrow so we are surprising the kids and taking them up to Scottsville (in the mountains) canoeing. They don't know what we're doing and it's driving them CRAZY! In turn, they are driving us CRAZY!!! Ruby, I'll wave as we go by!! I did take a picture while out in the front yard this afternoon. There is a momma robin who is trying to raise FOUR babies in one small nest. I am so afraid they will end up fall out as they grow. I know it's all life but I hate seeing any baby birds die! So here's a picture of the cramped birdy quarters. |
